The Seven Daughters of Dupree
After 6 days of reading, I quit just after the halfway mark. This seems to be a beloved book, but I don't get it. There are somewhere between 5 and 9 women from a matrilineal family and they might as well all be the same person. They seem to make bad decisions about men, be mean to their daughters, and I guess are cursed by the long-dead matriarch for no reason that I can think of? Also braiding is magic, but I have no more information about that than I did at the 5% mark. I haven't even seen any of the magic. Just people freak out over it.
Couple this with truly baffling prose that looks like it had not been line-edited, and us jumping up and down the timeline like anything, and I was forcing myself to go back to the book.
