The Da Vinci Code (Robert Langdon, #2)
I thought this might be an acceptable audio book to listen to on a recent road trip. It wasn't terrible, but I was surprised by a few things - first, the pacing. I remembered this as being a fast-paced book, but found it to drag and drag during this listen, and it was supposed to be an abridged edition. What's up with that?
The story itself remains far-fetched and transparent, with a combination of extremely easy puzzles (one "password" was so laughably transparent, even though Langdon and other experts struggled for a very long time with it) and ones that were... tricky, but solved immediately by our heroes, as they had specialized knowledge or superhuman powers.
The thing that really stood out, though, was the reader. He was okay so long as he was reading male English-speaking dialogue or just scene directions, but the French or female voices were abysmal. And the French female voices had to be heard to be believed. Cringe-inducing.
Still, the whole thing kept me alert enough to not drive off the road, so that's something.
